BALLROOM DANCING
The South Island ballroom dancing championships conducted by the) Federal Association of Teachers of Dancing (Australia and New Zealand) concluded last evening. The winning couple in the senior championship was Don Bumside and Irene Bates. The junior title went to John Sayers and Valerie Chapman. Gold medal tests were continued last evening and the results will be announced later. Results of last night’s events were:— Novice Championship.—Gordon Shand and Nedra Hodgkinson 1, Neville Robinson and Helene Wilson 2, Ted and Judy Girling 3. Senior Championship.—Rav Flavell and Rosaleen Johnstone 1. John Sayers and Rita Malloch 2, Don Burnside and Irene Bates 3. Sydney Hollis Trophy Championship.— Mervyn Holland and Susan Lance 1, Les Riddon and Dorothy Jackson 2. Mr and Mrs Tom Breeze 3. Thursday's results were:— South Island Maiden Championship.— First heat: Gordon Shand and Nedra Hodgkinson 1, Donald Gibbs and Valma Chapman 2. Brian Jones and Elaine Frank 3.
