CANTERBURY A. AND P. ASSOCIATION

MEMBERSHIP NOW 2742 The membership of the Canterbury Agricultural and Pastoral Association increased from 2676 to 2742 last year, according to the annual report of the general committee for 1955. The association now has 847 life members and 172 junior members. “The balance sheet for the year is satisfactory in view of the very heavy calls made on the association's resources during 1955.” says the report. “The new building required about £lOOO over and above the amount of the mortgage and of the fund set aside in 1954, and furnishing cost nearly £l6OO more than came in from donations to the furnishing fund. In addition, the Royal Show, which invariably means a greatly added financial burden, cost approximately £lOOO more than an ordinary show. “On the other side, members’ subscriptions were higher than in 1£54. and there was a substantial increase in revenue from rent of grounds. “Some of our buildings are now nearing the end of their usefulness, and there is constant expenditure on maintenance. One item alone, painting, absorbed nearly £lOOO during the year.” said the report. The report will be presented to the annual meeting of the association on March 15.
