Woman Slept For Three Days In Gas-Filled Room
(Rec. 11 p.m.) LONDON. March 6. A young wife said at a Birmingham inquest today that she woke up on a Wednesday thinking it was a Monday morning. She had slept for two days and three nights while her husband had been gassed by fumes from a paraffin heater. She and her two months old baby escaped. The woman. Mrs Muriel O’Callaghan, told the Coroner that during that time she must have “subconsciously’’ fed her daughter because a vacuum flask of milk was empty.
The inquest was on 26-year-old Michael John O’Callaghan, on whom a verdict of accidental death was returned. Mrs O’Callaghan said she felt “veryheavy and sleepy’’ and thought her husband, who was still in bed. was asleep. She carried on “still thinking it was Monday morning.’’ She saw a lot of newspapers on the hall floor, but she thought too many had been left in. mistake. It was only when she could not wake her husband that she called for help Then she discovered it was Wednesday and not Monday.
