WOOL VALUES IN AUSTRALIA
(Rec. 10 p.m.) MELBOURNE. March 1.
Medium and coarse crossbreds sold on a par with yesterday’s values at today’s Melbourne wool auction*. There was a satisfactory clearance of the 13.500 bales offered, the chief buyers being Japan, Britain, and local mills.
At Brisbane values closed fully firm, with no quotable upward or downward trend throughout the sale. The Continent, Japan, and Britain provided well-sustained competition, and there was a full clearance of 16,800 bales.
Russian Flight Over South Pole (Rec. 8 p.m.) MOSCOW, March 1. A Russian aircraft has flown from the Soviet Antarctic base camp at Mirney to the South Pole and back again, covering about 1900 miles. The Soviet news agency, Tass, reported that the 10-hour flight was made to investigate the Magnetic Pole area, where a second Soviet station will be set up in July, 1957.
