N.Z. INDUSTRIES FAIR
PREPARATIONS WELL ADVANCED MORE THAN ONE HUNDRED EXHIBITORS More than 100 exhibitors will take part in the 1956 New Zealand Industries Fair in Christchurch. The Canterbury Manufacturers’ Association will organise the fair, which will be held at the corner of Ferry road and Fitzgerald avenue from April 27 to May 19.
Exhibitors’ displays will include footwear. engineering. furniture, household appliances, furnishings, toys, farm implements and clothing. Lions will be on display in a special zoo on the fair grounds.
The main fair building (Manning’s old brewery) is already being cleaned, and all industrial space has been sold. Cement, glassware, agricultural implements and paper that has been stored in the building is slowly being moved out. Electricians are installing power supply points and also a standby power plant.
Workers yesterday were clearing three acres of additional ground space at the Moorhouse avenue end of the Transport Board’s workshops, and also a P ar * Xavier College grounds. This additional area will be used for children’s amusements, and it is hoped to §et suitable rails to have a horsetram for children’s rides. The first planetarium in New Zea<n*u a one. will be displayed at f air ’ to £ et ber with a working model of the solar system and an observatory. The planetarium will have a <J ome y’ith a projector in the "Sn I® tba t will project various constellations of stars in their actual positions.
