STOCK LOSSES IN QUEENSLAND
Heavy Damage In Floods
(Rec. 11.30 p.m.) BRISBANE. Jan. 2«. Livestock losses in flood-ravaged southern Queensland have been described as fantastic by the Mayor of Goondiwindi (Mr E. H. Campbell). He said some graziers had lost their entire sheep flocks and cattle herds. A grazier. Mr Ron Humble. of .Bengalla, flew over his flooded property and reported that not one of his 8000 sheep and 2000 cattle survived. The first death in the floods has been reported. Mr William Williams, aged 85. was drowned on Tuesday night when his horse and sulky were swept off a flooded bridge into the Boyne river. 250 miles north-west of Brisbane.
The Condamine river has flooded the township of Condamine, 250 miles south-west of Brisbane. Polio* said 75 persons had been evacuated. Ninetyfive were still in the township, but had sheltered in the school, which is built on high stilts. They have plenty of food, but cannot leave the town because of the swift currents running between them and the nearest nigh ground. The only other towns in danger of flooding are Toobeah and Taiwood, on the lower Macintyre river. Both towns had ample warning of the floods and moved portable property.
