(N.g. Press Association—Copyright) (Rec. 11 p.m.) WASHINGTON, Jan. 24. The Soviet Ambassador (Mr Georgi Zarubin) has requested a meeting with President Eisenhower tomorrow to deliver a message from the Soviet Premier, Marshal Nikolai Bulganin, the White House announced today.
The meeting will take place at 11.30 It was the first time since Mr Eisenhower took office that the Soviet’s chief representative in the United States had asked for a private meeting with the President. The White House said it had no idea what the Ambassador wished to talk about.
The Secretary of State, Mr Dulles, will be present. Mr Eisenhower last heard from Marshal Bulganin in a letter dated September 19, in which the Soviet Premier threw cold water on Mr Eisenhower’s so-called “open sky” arms inspection plan. Mr Eisenhower, after his September 24 heart attack, replied to Marshal Bulganin on October 11 in a brief message, saying that a fuller reply required preliminary work by his advisers.
