£5859 PROFIT FOR YEAR i SUCCESS OF AUSTRALIAN TEAM’S TOUR (Hew Zealand Press Association) WELLINGTON, January 24 The importance of New Zealand tours by overseas teams was mentioned in the financial summary for the 1955 season, presented at today’s meeting of the New Zealand Rugby Union. The final profit was £5859 even though the profit on the Australian tour, after a grant to the Australian union of £2500, was £7932 Mr J. H. Parker said the figures showed that normal administrative costs were such that there would be a loss of between £2OOO and £3OOO unless there were tours.

The accumulated assets of the New Zealand union are £59,210, but of this amount £26,555 is on loan to affiliated unions, and £15,000 is invested as a building fund.

For the tour by the Australian team, the gross gates were £34,881 The New Zealand union’s share was £18.222, and the profit £7932 Gross gates for the New Zealand Maori tour were £3020; the New Zealand union’s share was £1495; and a profit of £llB5 resulted. (New Zealand Press Association) WELLINGTON, January 24. The itinerary for the tour of New Zealand by the South African Rugbv team this year shows that the longest single journey will be of 9i hours. The tourists will stay at hotels every night of their visit. Members of the New Zealand Rugby Union today said they thought the arrangements were the best possible.
