CANTERBURY TEAM SELECTED COMPETITORS FOR N.Z. CHAMPIONSHIPS All swimmers chosen to represent Canterbury at the New Zealand swimming championships at Greymouth next month are from the Spreydon Club. The championships will be held from February 29 to March 4. The Canterbury selectors have picked two divers for the senior women’s events. They are Miss Janet Spooner (Elmwood) and Miss Raeleen Hall (St. Albans). The swimmers are as follows: O. Snoep (100 yards. 220 yards freestyle), P. R. Garratt (220 yards, 440 yards, 1650 yards freestyle). J. D. Graham (100 yards, 220 yards freestyle), A. R. Peters (100 yards, 220 yards breaststroke), I. H. McDonald (100 yards, 220 yards breaststroke). G. H. McFadden (100 yards, 440 yards backstroke), D. O. McGiffen (100 yards, 440 yards backstroke), Miss Beverley Breward (100 yards, 220 yards breastcstroke, 133 1-3 yards medley). Snoep, Graham, Garratt, and McFadden will represent Canterbury in the national fiying squadron title race. Mr Des. Begg (St. Albans), a former national diving title-holder, has been appointed manager of the team. Mrs F. Hall, Secretary of the St. Albans Swimming Club, will be chaperon. Junior Team Two swimmers have been added to the junior team selected at the week-end. They are Miss Maureen Farmer (Christchurch), who will compete in the 100 yards freestyle and 100 yards backstroke events, and Derek Eaton (Elmwood), who will swim in the 50 yards butterfly race and the 100 yards, 220 yards, and 440 yards freestyle events. Eaton and Miss Farmer were nominated by their clubs., which will be responsible for financing their journeys. The junior and intermediate championships will be held at Napier on February 8. 9, and 11. Mr E. Stentiford (St. Albans) has been appointed manager of the Canterbury junior team. Mrs H. McFadden (Spreydon) will be chaperon.
