Quicker Divorce In Britain

(N.Z. Press Association —Copyright) (Rec. 10 p.m.) LONDON. Jan. 23. Official figures show that divorce in British Courts is now quicker than at any time since the war. It is now possible to file a petition and obtain a decree in less than four months. The peak year for divorces was 1947. There were 60,000 petitioners and many had to wait 18 months for decrees. Even a year ago, there were more than 2000 cases awaiting a hearing. The appointment of additional judges and commissioners and authority for County Court judges to act has caused the speed up. There are 21 judges hearing divorce cases in the provinces and 12 in London.
