TIMBER MILL BURNT

LOSS ESTIMATED AT £20,000 (New Zealand Press Association) GISBORNE, January 22. o£?22 age estimated at more than £20.000 was caused by a fire which razed a timber mill owned by Mr Nolan Richardson at Motuhoura on Saturday afternoon. The plant, the biggest in the district, was three miles from Motu. It was completely destroyed. Four lorries and some of the timber m the yard were also lost. A bulldozer driver saved the rest of the stacked timber by pushine it away from the blaze. The fire is believed to have started about 2 p.m. as the result of a short circuit in the diesel engine shed, tanned by a strong wind, the flames rapidly spread to the main mill block. Two men were working at the mill water was available for fighting the fire.
