BECKENHAM LEADING IN CHAMPIONSHIP Beating W.M.C. by an innings, Beckenham gained the only outright win of the senior round of the Suburban Cricket Association’s competitions on Saturday. Beckenham thus gained top place for the championship with a lead of two points over New Brighton, which beat Matchless on the first innings. Papanui secured a first innings win over Waltham. The following are the match points gained by the senior teams to date: —Beckenham 26, New Brighton 24, Matchless 22, Waltham 20, Papanui 15, W.M.C. 6. Results:— SENIOR GRADE Beckenham 376 beat W.M.C. (batting tvzo men short) 118 (Gosling 28. Warr 23) and 138 (Bennett 41, Warr 33) by an innings and 120 runs. For Beckenham, Griffiths took two for 34 and four for 40, and Mitchell four for 44. New Brighton 210 (M. Logan 47, Pattison 41, K. Logan 31, Buxton 22) beat Matchless 193 by 17 runs on the first innings. For Matchless. Sheahan took six for 76, and McConochie four for 45. Papanui 308 beat Waltham 241 (Newfield 44, Wilson 39, Collender 32, Smith 31) by 67 runs on the first innings. For Papanui, Sherwood took two for 24.
