SHEFFIELD SHIELD MATCH

(N.Z. Press Association—Copyright) 1 P- m -> MELBOURNE. Jan. 22 South Australian opener, John Lili batted throughout the first day of the Sheffield Shield match against Victoria yesterday for 95 not out. Vi ctorian captain, lan Johnson, sent South Australian in to bat on a wicket that was still damp from rain that washed out play on Friday. The move backfired when his pace bowlers failed to take advantage of the early life in the wicket, and he and Hill failed to exploit a drying pitch. Scores were:—South Australia, five for 26 6(Favell 54, Lili 95 not out, Stevens 45; Loxton two for 41).
