CHARGES OF ASSAULT
SEQUEL TO WELLINGTON STREET FIGHTS

WELLINGTON, January 7. Two youths appeared before Mr J. S. Hanna, S.M., in the Magistrate’s Court today on assault charges resulting from a fracas in Wellington streets late yesterday afternoon. A police constable was taken to hospital after the fights. Each youth was remanded until Friday—the younger, aged 16. to the Children’s Court, and the other, John McKeown, aged 18, a seaman, to the Magistrate’s Court.
Tne 16-year-old youth was charged with assaulting a young girl and two men, and the seaman with assaulting the girl. No charge has yet b£en made about the injuries to the constable. Asking for the remands, SubInspector C. J. Dwyer said that the constable was still in hospital and indicated that other charges would probably be .preferred against the two accused.
Both were remanded in custody.
