JAPAN-RUSSIA PEACE TALKS

(Rec. 10 p.m.) TOKYO, January 7. Mr Shunchi Matsumoto, Japan's chief delegate to the RussianJapanese peace talks in London, left Tokyo by airliner tonight to resume talks with the Russian delegate (Mr Jacob Malik), suspended since • last September. Official sources said that the Japanese Government had instructed Mr Matsumoto to follow the original policy of demanding the early release of some 1300 Japanese war criminals and the return of northern island territories.

lhe London peace treaty talks started last June. The talks will resume on January 17.
