JUNIOR RED CROSS CONFERENCE

SOUTHLAND GIRL N.Z. REPRESENTATIVE , A passenger on the Tasman Empire Airways DC-6 that left Harewood on Thursday for Melbourne was 17-year-old Norma Craig, of Ohai, Southland, who will represent New Zealand at the International Junior Red Cross conference at Lonsdale Beach, 60 miles from Melbourne. The conference started yesterday, and will continue till January 13. Miss Craig, who is a member of the Southland Girls* High School Junior Red Cross circle, was chosen from 16.000 members throughout New Zealand to be delegate. Her fare and uniforms were supplied by Junior Red Cross headquarters. During her three weeks’ stay in Australia she will be the guest of the Australian Red Cross Society. Her work at the conference will include arranging the New Zealand corner, and exhibiting in it toys, folios, and other articles made by New Zealand Junior Red Cross members, and pictures of typical New Zealand scenery. She will give to representatives from other countries at the conference a short account of the history and activities of the Junior Red Cross m New Zealand. A £ter the conference is over she will be billeted in Melbourne for 10 days’ holiday to enable her to see something of the country and the activities of the Australian Red Cross. Before she left Christchurch, Miss Craig was met by Miss Janet Studholme. of Wellington, director of the Junior Red Cross in New Zealand.
