RED PAINT SPLASHED ON HORSE
VALUABLE STALLION’S HIDE BLISTERED
(New Zealand Press Association)
DANNEVIRKE, January 5. A cruel prank was played on a valuable two-year-old black stallion in a paddock at Ormondville, near Dannevirke, early on Tuesday. The animal, which is being trained as a show horse, was painted down one side with blotches of red priming paint, which has caused its hide to blister.
Owned by Mr Les Herbert, of Te Uri, the stallion has been ridden only about four times and is still being broken. It had been left in the paddock overnight.
It was attended by a veterinary surgeon soon after the prank was discovered, because of the possibility of the horse contracting lead poisoning from the paint on its body. The horse v/as to have been an entry in the Dannevirke and District Agricultural and Pastoral Association’s annual show next month, but it will probably need to be retrained and broken when it has fully recovered.
