Sir—The reports of dismay and gloom concerning the French elections are merely reflections of the capitalists and of private enterprise. France is long overdue for a socialist government. Social evolution there has had many spanners thrown into its. revolving cogs. Clerical domination and capitalism are apparently on the wane. I think every opportunity should be given to the Socialists to prove or disprove their ability. France could not be more confused than at present and during the post-war years. As for the Poujadists’ Party, I think it may purposely have been formed to stem the tide of socialism and is not the surprise it is reputed to be.— Yours, etc.,
