BEAUTY CONTEST AT TIMARU
CHRISTCHURCH GIRL WINS TITLE
Miss Beverly Joughin, of 126 Fisher avenue, Christchurch, won the 1955-56 Miss Caroline Bay beauty contest from a field of 19.
She is a corsetiere at a Christchurch department store but plans to begin a nursing career at the Christchurch Public Hospital this year. Miss Joughin was “Miss Canterbury” two years ago and last year was runner-up. Second prize in the contest went to Miss Marita Robertshaw, of Timaru, and Miss Marie Anderson, of Christchurch, was third.
Nine finalists who made two appearances at the sound shell at Caroline Bay on Tuesday night were:— Misses Joughin (Christchurch), Robertshaw (Timaru), Anderson (Christchurch), Reima Tregenza (Timaru), Greta Wakelin (Masterton), Gloria Garrick (Invercargill), June Stratton (Auckland). Shirley Timpson (Christchurch), and Vera Evans (Timaru).
The judge was Mrs J. C. McKenzie, of Timaru. and the wife of the president of the Caroline Bay Association 'Mrs L. T. Green) presented the Miss Caroline Bay ribbon. Miss Robertshaw is the 19-year-old daughter of Mr and Mrs A. V. Robertshaw, Victoria street, Timaru. She won third place in the Miss Caroline Bay contest last year. Miss Anderson, the third prize-winner, is 26. She is the daughter of Mr and Mrs T. G. Anderson, of Jacob street, Christchurch.
