MINOR FIRES

Two grass fires were started alongside the north railway line by sparks from an engine late yesterday afternoon. Both fires were extinguished before any damage was done. The first call was received at 5.26 p.m. to a fire near Mayfair avenue, and the second at 5.30 p.m. to a fire near Wroxton terrace. Units from the central and St. Albans fire brigades attended. A railway truck containing a load of rubbish caught fire at the Addington Railway Workshops yesterday morning. Units from the central and St. Albans fire brigades answered a call received at 9.54 a.m. The workshops’ own brigade also helped to extinguish the fire. The metal truck containing the rubbish was not damaged, *but the top of another railway truck standing I nearby was slightly burnt.
