FLIGHTS TO KAIAPOI AND ASHBURTON

A helicopter from the icebreaker Glacier at Lyttelton flew to Kaiapoi and Ashburton yesterday, and landed for a few minutes. The machine went to Kaiapoi at 9.30 a.m., and returned to the Royal New Zealand Air Force station. Wigram, to refuel before flying south. It was over Ashburton soon after midday, and was back at Wigram early in the afternoon. Passengers on the flight were the officer commanding fhe station at Wigram (Group Captain F. R. Dix) and the Royal New Zealand Air Force liaison officer with the United States Antarctic expedition (Squadron Leader E. C. Gartrell).
