ROAD SAFETY COMMITTEE
CAR CLUB GRANTED REPRESENTATION
An application by the Canterbury Car Club for representation on the Christchurch Metropolitan Road Safety Committee was granted by the committee last evening. In a letter to the committee, the elub said it had made the application previously, but so far it had not been granted. The club wished to renew the application. “As a result of their experience, motor sportsmen are more competent to speak on road safety matters than nearly al: other sections of the community.” said the letter. “There are ignorart people who deride motoi sportsmen as irresponsible road user The truth is that they are among the most experienced and most competent drivers on public roads, and they have formed considered opinions which would be a valuable contribution in forming policies and programmes for achievmg a much greater measure of safety on the highways.” The club said that, if its application was granted. its representative would Mr H. G. R. Sedgley. one of thr club's vice-presidents. The committee granted the application without discussion.
