BROWN’S CONTRACT SOLD N.Z. MAN TO ATTEMPT COMEBACK (N.Z. Press Association—Copyright) SYDNEY, October 27. The contract of the former Empire wel-ter-weight champion, Barry Brown, has been sold for £lOOO, says the sports writer, E. E. Christensen, in the "Sydney Sun.” Brown’s father has sold the contract to a city businessman, Mr Eddie Jacober, who managed Tommy Burns towards the close of his ring career. Mr Jacober bought the contract on the advice of Burns, who will act as the New Zealander’s trainer. Now a middle-weight, Brown is making a comeback after a long spell. In his last two fights he took severe beatings from Freddie Dawson and George Barnes. He lost the Empire title to Barnes after having won it from the South African, Gerald Dreyer, in New Zealand. Burns said today that Brown had been boxing at his gymnasium and he was satisfied that he would fight better than ever. On Brown’s earlier displays in Australia the offer for his contract would constitute a major gamble. But Burns said that Brown had improved out of sight, and he had no fears about vouching for his capabilities. "I think he can win -the Australian middle-weight title,’’ said Burns.
