CUT IN ITALIAN ROAD RACES
(N.Z. Press Association—Copyright)
(Rec. 7 p.m.) ROME, October 20. Some of Italy’s top car and motorcycle road races will vanish from the 1956 racing calendar as a result of the safety measures agreed on last night by Government and sporting officials. All speed races on Italian highways open to traffic will be banned. Motor and motor-cycle races on normal highways closed to traffic during the events will be limited to a few famous competitions. A statement issued after the meeting specified no names but it is understood that permission will be given for perhaps only four major road races for cars.
