MIDDLESEX BEATEN BY 235 RUNS SOUTH AFRICAN BOWLERS DOMINANT (N.Z. Press Association—Copyright) LONDON, August 30. The South Africans completed theii fixtures against the counties of England in a.blaze of glory at Lord’s today, beating Middlesex by 235 runs. Middlesex, which needed 307 runs with ali their second innings wickets standing to win today, was dismissed for 98. This was the lowest score ever made by Middlesax against South Africa. On a pitch responsive to both speed and spin, the South Africans routed Middlesex in little more than two hours today. Face bowler Peter Heine began the disintegration by dismissing both opening batsmen. Jack Robertson and Bill Edrich. Then the spin bowlers, lan Smith and Hugh Tayfield, accounted for the remaining eight wickets, which added only 53. Smith took five wickets for 27 runs and Tayfield three for 19. Denis Compton, who scored 20 for Middlesex, stayed long enough to complete 5000 runs against post-war touring sides. He is the first player to achieve the feat. The tourists have now beaten the top five counties in English cricket— Surrey (the champions), Yorkshire, Middlesex, Hampshire, and Sussex.
