WOMEN’S DIVISION OF FEDERATED FARMERS
Lyndon-Waiau.—Mrs Sunckell presided at the August meeting of the LyndonWaiau branch of the women’s Division of Federated Farmers. It was decided to send £2 each to the six rest homes and £2 to the Hurunui housekeeping section. Competitions resultedpeggy square: Miss Smale 1, Mrs McLean 2, Miss F. Beaven 3. Man’s buttonhole: Mrs McLean 1, Miss Beaven 2. Mrs Low 3. Large bloom: Mrs Low 1, Miss Beaven 2, Miss A. Beaven 3 Small bloom: Mrs McLean 1, Miss A. Beaven 2, Mrs Low 3. Hoon Hay.—Mrs Abbott was the speaker at the August meeting of the Hoon Hay branch of the Women’s Division of Federated Farmers. Mrs Rountree presided and welcomed a new member, Mrs King. Two invitations to birthday parties were received and accepted, -a donation was made to the community chest fund. Results of competitions were:—small bloom: Mrs Luke and Mrs Boswell (equal) 1. Medium bloom: Mrs Brandon. Spike: Mrs Boswell. Cacti bowl: Mrs Luke. Carrots: Mrs Taylor. Something new from something old: Mrs Luke.
Carleton-Bennetts.—The monthly meeting of the Carleton-Bennetts branch of the Women’s Division of Federated Farmers was held at the home of the president (Mrs Thompson). A report was given on the church parade during the month. A quantity of biscuits and children’s clothing, to be forwarded to Burwood Hospital, were received. Competition results were as follows:—Large bloom: Miss O’Loughlin 1, Mrs Thompson 2, Mrs McKeage 3. Smail bloom: Mrs Everest 1, Mrs Skurr 2, Mrs Haiding 3. Pair of boy's trousers: Mrs Jeal 1, Mrs Harding 2, Miss O’Loughlin 3.
WOMEN’S INSTITUTES
Little River.—Mrs Grant presided at the monthly meeting of the Litt e River Country Women’s Institute. Members agreed to collect rags for the Gripp ed Children Society. It was also no decided to vote £1 Is to the society. A talk on her recent visit overseas was given by Miss H. Buchanan. Competition results were as lohows:—Winter oecdration: Mrs Millard 1, Mrs Grant 2, Mrs E. Ussher and Mrs G. Hunt (equal) 3. Jar of beaches: "Mrs L. Radford 1, Mrs Hunt 2, Mrs Ussher 3. Best parsnip: Mrs Hunt 1. Mrs Ussher 2, Mrs A. Bedford 3. Penny for Jennifer realised 7s lOd. Omihi,—Mrs Campbell presided over S good attendance at the August meeting of the Omihi Country Women’s Institute. Members decided to combine a spring flower show with the September meeting. Ginger cakes were sent to the elderly patients at Burwood Hospital. Arrangements were made for a visit to Canterbury Agricultural College, Lincoln, in October. Miss Mary McLean gave an interesting address on her recent trip to the Pan-Pacific Women’s Conference. Competition results were:—large bloom: Mrs Campbell 1 and 2. Small bloom: Mrs J. Stackhouse 1, Miss A. Stackhouse 2. Posy bowl: Mrs Harrison 1, Miss A. Stackhouse 2. Jar marmalade: Mrs Harrison 1, Mrs Pugh 2. Bottle tomato sauce: Mrs Wilkie 1. Mrs J. Stackhouse 2. Ginger cake: Mrs Wilkie and Miss A. Stackhouse (equal) 1, Mrs G. McLean 3.
