TELEVISION IN NEW ZEALAND
POLICY STATEMENT SOUGHT
RADIO TRADERS WANT “DEFINITE START”
(New Zealand Press Association)
AUCKLAND, August 30. A clear-cut policy statement by the Government on television will , be sought by the New Zealand RadioTelevision and Electrical Traders’ Association. It wants to know when a definite start will be made with building transmitting stations, and what screen lineage will be adopted. The association considers that the British system of 405-line images is unsuitable because it cannot be adapted for such improvements as colour television. At their annual conference at Waitomo, members said Australia had decided to use the 625-line system which was already used by many Continental countries. It was time the Government made up its mind on this vital question so that a real start could be made with bringing television to New Zealanders.
