GENE LITTLER WINS MONTREAL TOURNEY (N.Z. Press Association— Copyright) (Rec. 10 p.m.) MONTREAL, Aug. 28. Gene Littler, of California, today won the 26,800-dollar Montreal open golf tournament when he beat Stan Leonard, of Vancouver, on the first extra hole ' after they had finished the 72-hole competition with scores of 272. A great last nine by Leonard, ,in which he cut a lead of two strokes by Littler and Doug. Ford, of New York, forced the competition into a play-off. Ford finished with 275. Leonard had a 65 on his final round over the Summerlea Club course, and Littler a 68. Ford, starting the fourth round with a one-stroke lead over Littler, and a four-stroke lead over Leonard, scored 72. Sam Snead, of West Virginia, Doug. Ford, winner of the tournament two years ago, and Ed. Oliver, of Illinois, finished with scores of 275. LOCKE HOME AFTER TOUR (N.Z. Press Association—Copyright) JOHANNESBURG, August 28. Bobby Locke, the South African golt champion, and three times holder of the British open title, has arrived back after his long tour, which embraced Australia and Britain. He said that Peter Thomson, Australia's winner of the British open championship for the last two years, will visit South Africa early next year. ‘‘The tout is definitely on” said Locke, who confirmed that he will not go back to the United States. “It is far too strenuous over there as Peter Thomson has found,” said Locke. But he said that he will return to Britain next year. PAT LESSER WIN U.S. women’s Title (N.Z. Press Association-Copyright) NEW YORK. August 28. Miss Pat Lesser, aged 22, became the United States amateur women’s golf champion yesterday when she beat Miss Jane Nelson, 7 and 6, in the 36-hole final.
