Oil Fire Burning Out Still

(Rec. 11.30 p.m.) WHITING (Indiana), August 29. The fire that erupted at the Standard Oil Company refinery in Whiting on Saturday burned at a diminishing rate this morning. Company officials said they hoped that the flames would be put out later today. Meanwhile the danger of new explosions of petroleum-products continued.

Tired men were fighting the flames, confined today to two storage tanks, as huge clouds of dark grey smoke billowed into the air.

Two persons were killed and about 45 received treatment for injuries. About 1000 families eyacuated on Saturday still were being kept from their homes. National guardsmen patrolled the area.
