CIVIL AVIATION REGULATIONS
Detective To Inquire Into Breaches
POLICEMAN SECONDED TO ADMINISTRATION
(New Zealand- Press Association) WELLINGTON. August 25. A member of the Police Force, Detective R. A. Austin, has been seconded to the Civil Aviation Administration to police regulations and prepare evidence for prosecution. The Director of Civil Aviation (Mr E. A. Gibson) told the annual conference of the Aviation Industry Association of New Zealand today that the del active would deal with the “flagrant, stupid and silly” breaches of the regulations that were occurring. Mr Gibson quoted specific breaches of the type the detective would handle. There was the case of a topdressing pilot, returning to his home airport, who saw a group of people standing in a paddock, and dived on them—“in other words, ‘beat them up,’ ” he said. Another case was of .a pilot “beating up” a house. There was also* the case of a pilot who had no commercal licence, flying passengers in an aircraft subject to maintenance certificate renewal, and taking donations, said Mr Gibson. , Breaches of that description were only bringing the whole of the industry into disrepute, he said. There were other minor breaches, similar to parking offences for ground vehicles, but it was not desired that an offender in this category should be prosecuted.
