POWER FOR INDUSTRY
DUTIES OF SUPPLY AUTHORITIES
MINISTER REPLIES TO MANUFACTURERS
Electric power supply authorities were responsible for ensuring that sufficient power was available from Roxburgh, the Minister in charge ot the State Hydro-electric Department (Mr W'. S. Goosman) has advised the Canterbury Manufacturers’ Association.
To comment by the association’s secretary (Mr R. t. Alston) that manufacturers were planning increased production and needed assurances that power would be available, the Minister said that such manufacturers should advise the appropriate supply authority so that provision could be made not only for generators and transmission but also for the power distribution system. The association asked for an assurance that plant and materials used at Roxburgh should be transferred to the Benmore scheme. The Minister replied that in deciding the date of starting Benmore the Government would consider the factors mentioned. “The letter puts the onus on supply authorities to see that additional generators are, installed at Roxburgh,” 3aid Mr Alston. “It is obvious that practically all our members will be developing and therefore consuming more power.” *
