CHURCH’S FIFTIETH ANNIVERSARY
PARISH HALL OPENED AT HORSLEY DOWN The fiftieth anniversary of St. folumba Church, Horsley Down was elebrated on Tuesday morning with thanksgiving service. In the afteroon a new Sunday school room and arish hall were opened. The service was conducted by the icar (Rev. M. J. Goodall), assisted y the Archdeacon bf North Canterury and Westland (the Venerable S. 1. Woods), Rev. G. H. Schurr (a Miner vicar), and Rev. W. Wisdom Rural Dean of North Canterbury), 'anon W. A. Orange (a former vicar) reached the sermon and made refernce to the church’s influence in the ommunity at large. After a luncheon at which a number f former parishioners were welcomed a the celebrations. Archdeacon Woods edicated new pews and a bishop’s hair which had been presented to the hurch and officially opened the hall. The new building is of concrete locks and was built at a cost of ’1624, more than £llOO of which had een raised locally. It has one large 30m with an entrance porch and a itchen which is also equipped to serve s a class-room. The anniversary celebrations were on eluded with a social afternoon tea.,
