Police Head Arrested In Morocco
(N.Z. Press Association—Copyright) PARIS, June 17. A former Chief Inspector of the Casablanca police has been arrested in connexion with an investigation into counter-terrorism in Morocco, it was announced in Paris today. Mr Pierre July, Minister of Tunisian and Moroccan Affairs, told reporters that the ex-inspector was under very grave suspicion. “It’ is suspected that his machine pistol has beerl used in several terrorist attacks,” he said.
Mr July said it was not thought, however, that this gun was used in the killing of Mr Racques LemaigreDubreuil, a French newspaper owner who favoured a Liberal policy toward Moroccan nationalism. After this murder, M-r July made a vigorous denunciation of “counterterrorism”—violent retaliation against terrorist acts by Arab nationalists. Mr Roger Wybot, the French intelligence head, was sent to Casablanca to investigate the murder. Mr Wybot returned today and conferred with Mr July and the French Prime Minister (Mr Edgar Faure).
