France Bans Trade With Rumania
(N.Z. Press Association—Copyright) PARIS, June 18 The French Government had suspended all exports to Rumania, the French Foreign Office announced today. It said that this action had been taken because of the attitude of the Rumanian authorities over certain French citizens detained in Rumania A Foreign Office statement said that three of the 10 French citizens were released last November after tions. Two other Frenchmen died in prison and five others were still held. The French and Rumanian Commercial and Payments Agreement was signed last December after Rumania had promised that it would not repeal its decision to release the remaining prisoners, the statement said. However, they were not released in spite of repeated reminders, and the French Foreign Office Marc/r warned the Rumanian Legation in Paris that the application of the agreement might be suspended if the prisoners were not released. Two unsuccessful approaches to the Rumanians had since followed, and France was now regretfully compelled to suspend consignments of merchandise to Rumania, the statement said.
