34 Alleged Members Of Mafia Arrested
(N.Z. Press Association—Copyright) VIBQ VALENTIA, June 19. The police on Saturday detained 34 alleged members of the Mafia—a Black Hand gang—on suspicion of aiding a former convict accused of five vendetta murders. The police allege that within 48 hours of being released from prison Seragino Gastagna killed five persons, including his father, who testified against him at his trial for attempted murder in 1950. A small army of police roamed the rugged southern Italian countryside before finding Castagna asleep in a lonely hut. The police said he told them that members of the Mafia at Vibo Valentia, in southern Italy, first helped him and then betrayed him and he wanted to unmask them.
