BUILDING PLANNED AT RACECOURSE
A comprehensive building plan for the Waimate racecourse was discussed at a meeting of the Joint Grounds Committee, at which Mr S. D. Vincent presided. Four concrete loose-boxes are planned for completion in time for the Waimate District Hunt’s race meeting in July; a further 12 boxes are to be built as soon as possible to provide much-needed accommodation Additions to the members’ stand are projected. An architect’s plan is to be obtained for an addition to provide for judges’ box, press box. president’s room and members’ and stewards’ bar. The replacement of a further section of the posts * and running rails along the straight ol the course proper was also decided. Other work to be put in hand includes the installation of an electric water-heating system, additional lights in the weighing and refreshment rooms, plumbing work at the rear of the main stand to prevent overflowing, and the felling of four trees behind the totalisator house where a new entrance will be formed from both the members’ and the public car park to do away with the two separate entrances. This will make available an additional horse stall.
The Chief Officer of the Waimate Fire Brigade is to be consulted on the provision of fire buckets or similar equipment.
