MORE FREIGHTER AIRCRAFT
PURCHASE BY NATIONAL AIRWAYS
Two Douglas DC-3 freighter aircraft, which have been purchased from Australian National Airways by the National Airways Corporation, will be flown from Sydney to Christchurch by way of Norfolk Island and Auckland by crews of the corporation. National Airways Corporation crews will take over the aircraft at Melbourne on Tuesday. Captain H. C. Walker, operations manager of the corporation, will command one aircraft, and Captain J. Malcolm will be navigator. The second aircraft will be under the command of Captain M. L. Pirie. district senior pilot for the corporation at Auckland, with Captain R. Bruce as navigator. The aircraft will be flown to Sydney, and they are expected to leave for New Zealand on Thursday. The additional aircraft will increase the corporation’s freighter fleet to four aircraft, and will temporarily meet the large demand for freight services.
