RUGBY FOOTBALL COLTS TEAM FOR CEYLON

NOMINATIONS FROM CANTERBURY

Nominations of the following players for inclusion in the New Zealand team of colts to tour Ceylon later in the season were approved by the management committee of the Canterbury Rugby Union last night:—A. R. Taylor, full-back (Linwood Club), J. D. McKenzie, hooker (Christchurch), J. M. Osborne, wing-three-quarters (Christchurch), J. G. N. Orsbourn, breakaway forward (Christchurch), B. W. Loveridge, lock-forward (Old Boys), and M. F. Whitta, forward (Sydenham). An application from D. F. O’Flaherty, sponsored by the Marist Club, for reinstatement from League to the Rugby Union was received and is to be forwarded to the New Zealand Rugby Union for favourable consideration.

The Belfast Club in reporting an injury to one of its forwards, C. Fechney, objected to the use of aluminium sprigs. The letter said that four of the Belfast Club members were now on the side-line because of injuries by aluminium sprigs. Mr W. C. Dailey, who presided, said as the New Zealand Rugby Union had approved of the use of these sprigs little could be done in the matter. The following draw for the senior championship was made for June 18: Marist v. Technical, Albion v. Christchurch, Sunnyside-Spreydon v. New Brighton, Sydenham v. Merivale, University v. Linwood, and Belfast v. Old Boys.

For the competitions committee, Mr R. W. Blazey said Lancaster Park would not be available for Rugby on June 18 when Technical and Marist would provide the main feature at Rugby Park. He suggested that extra seating accommodation be provided. The question was referred to the grounds committee.
