VICTORIAN ELECTION
Government By One Party Possible
MELBOURNE, June 7. The Liberal-Country Party last night won the seat of Bendigo by two votes. This gives the Premier (Mr H. E. Bolte) the required numbers to form an all-Liberal-Country Party Government. The Liberal-Country Party candidate, Mr J. Stanistreet, won the Bendigo seat from the former chief secretary (Mr L. Galvin) of the Cain Labour Party. A recount of the vote will be made.
The Liberal-Country Party now will have 34 seats in a House of 66. This will enable them to govern without the help of the Country Party. Two narrow wins in doubtful seats •gave the Liberal-Country Party their absolute majority. The Governor (Sir Dallas Brooks) swore in Mr Bolte’s new Ministry today. The new Legislative Assembly (subject to the Bendigo recount) is composed as follows:—Liberal-Country Party, 34 seats; Country Party, 10; Cain Labour Party, 20; Coleman-Barry Labour Party, 1; Progressive Labour; 1.
