ANTIBIOTICS IN AGRICULTURE

[U.S. Inforrriation Service} NEW YORK. Antibiotic drugs such as penicillin and streptomycin may soon become even more important aids to agriculture, it was predicted recently by Dr. Louis G. Nickell of Charles Pfizer and Company, United States drug manufacturers. “We are on the threshold of the antibiotic era of agriculture,” Dr. Nickell said, claiming that antibiotics have been used successfully to control diseases in both plants and animals, and to stimulate the growth of chickens, turkeys, calves and pigs. Scientists now believe that antibiotics will soon be widely used to protect plants against insects, and also to preserve foods and keep them from spoiling.
