COMPANY SUES STRIKERS
“Pattern Of Violence” Alleged (N.Z. Press Association —Copyright) NASHVILLE (Tennessee), May 31. The Southern Bell Telephone Company filed a petition for 5,000,000 dollars (about £1,813,750) today against the Communications Workers of America arising out of a recent 72-day strike. The suit, filed in circuit court, accused the union of a “pattern of violence.” The company alleged that the union joined with its members and others in an unlawful combination and conspiracy to damage company property. The union denied any connexion with the repeated acts of vandalism that plagued the telephone company during the Jong strike.
