THREE SHOT DEAD IN U.S. BANKS
(N.Z. Press Association—Copyright) DAYTON (Ohio), June 1. Police here were trying to determine today why Richard Meyers, 47, shot and killed three persons and critically wounded three others in two Dayton banks yesterday. One of the few clues they had was that Meyers said just before he died from bullet wounds: “The Lord told me that banks and their presidents were the adversaries oi God.” Meyers, whom police called a religious fanatic, walked into a bank yesterday and blazed away with a pistol, hitting six persons. He then sprinted next door to another bank where he wounded a guard and a bank executive before three policemen cut him down in a hail of bullets. Eight bullets were found in Meyers’s body. He died almost three hours later after babbling incoherent, religiouSHßounding phrases.
