ACCIDENT IN NEW CALEDONIA
WELLINGTON MAN STILL SERIOUSLY ILL (New Zealand Press Association) WELLINGTON, June 2. For nearly three weeks, Mr John Ensor, a 33-year-old Wellington radio technician, has lain in a deep coma in a hospital in Noumea, New Caledonia. For the last week, his wife has been by his bedside waiting for him to regain consciousness. The Royal New Zealand Air Force flew Mrs Ensor to her husband on May 23. Their two young children still wait in Wellington. Mr Ensor suffered serious head injuries when he and an announcer, Mr E. V. Spencer, were involved in a car accident on their way back to Noumea after a ceremony at the Bourail War Cemetery on May 8. Mr Spencer was killed. The full extent of Mr Ensor’s injuries is unknown, as his condition is too serious to allow a full examination.
