ALL-WOMEN TEAM IN HIMALAYAS
22,000 Ft Peak Scaled (N.Z. Press Association—Copyright) KATAMANDU, Ju 1. Three Scots women, who we -n the first all-women venture into .he Himalayas, today trekked back to Katamandu sunburnt and flushed with success at their conquest of an unnamed 22,000 ft peak on May 21. The leader of the expedition, Mrs Monica Jackson, the mother of two children, said she gained the summit of the unnamed peak in the Jugal Himal Range with Mrs R. E. Stark, a speech therapist. A third member of the expedition —Dr. Evelyn Camprass—could not go oeyond 20,000 ft because of mountain sickness, said Mrs Jackson. The three women, all members ot the Scottish Mountaineering Club had 30 porters and four Sherpa guides with them. The only male member of the expedition, apart from the porters and guides, was a Nepali youth, who was liaison officer. Mrs Jackson took part in the AngloSwiss attempt on Chooyn, a 26.000 ft peak 20 miles south of Mount Everest, and claims to "have reached a height of 21,000 ft in the Kanchenjunga region of the Himalayas in 1952.
