MISSION WORKS FOR LEPERS

TRUST BOARD GRANTS £30,000 ACTIVITIES IN SOUTH PACIFIC The Lepers’ Trust Board has allocated £30,000 for medical and leprosy work in the South Pacific area, according to advice from Mr J. Twomey, field officer for the board. Included in this total were four sums of £4OOO, three allocated to special funds for leprosy relief vessels in the British South Solomohs, and the other for a cottage hospital for the Presbyterian Mission in the New Hebrides. Funds for new vessels have been established for the Melanesian (Anglican) Mission, the Marist Mission, and the Methodist Mission, all in the British South Solomon Islands. The Central Leprosy Hospital, Makogai, Fiji, was granted £2OOO, and the Leprosy Hospital. Tahiti, £5OO. As well as the special funds for vessels, missions in the Solomons received other grants. The Melanesian Mission was granted £3500, the Marist Mission £3500. the Methodist Mission £3500, and the Seventh-day Adventist Mission £lOOO. The four main church bodies— Anglican, Roman Catholic, Methodist, and Presbyterian—doing medical work in the Pacific Islands, are represented on the Lepers’ Trust Board.
