“Miss West Coast” (Miss Mary Alabaster) will leave Christchurch next Thursday on a Tasman Empire Airways DC-6 fpr Melbourne. With her title she won a sponsored visit to Melbourne and Sydney. Mr L. Clark spoke on early flowering chrysanthemums at the May meeting of the garden circle of the Christchurch branch of the Overseas League. Mrs V. Barnett presided. The following officers were elected: president, Mrs E. Burn; minute secretary, Mrs M. Tunnicliffe; correspondence secretary, Mrs M. Guest; treasurer, Mrs H. Kerr; flower steward, Mrs G. Allen. The following officers were elected at the annual meeting of the Woolston branch of the League of Mothers: —president, Mrs L. Reid; v.ce-presidents, Mesdames J. Gorman and Calder. Mrs F. S. Gray, the retiring president, was thanked for her services over the last three years. Songs were sung by Mesdames R. Ayling and L. G. Ireland. Mrs Mitchell was in charge of the creche. Mr F. A. Judkins spoke on chrysanthemums at the May meeting of the Darfield Garden Club. The president (Mrs Harris) paid a tribute to the work for garden clubs by the late Mrs David Crozier. The third annual meeting of the Bryndwr branch of the League of Mothers was held recently. Officers were elected as follows:—president, Mrs G. M. Maxwell: vice-president, Mrs O.
