LAKELANDS STUD was founded in 1940 by the division of the old established MERESIDE HERD, the property of the Bowis Estate. This originated from selected VALE ROYAL cows from Mr J. T. Turnbull, whose herd was sold in 1922. RUAKURA blood was also included in the early cows by purchases at the AVONDALE Sale. Bulls used were from Mr G. N. Bell, Cloverlea, and Ruakura, notably DOMINION SILVER HERO. Mr Bowis, since he has carried on his share of the herd as the LAKELANDS STUD, has used mainly North Island bulls notably HILLVIEW TIM and KOWHAIS REBELLION, and the present Herd Sire is NEWSTEAD RUFUS from the stud of Mr W.
