LONDON WOOL FUTURES

(N.Z. Press Association—Copyright) LONDON. May 26. Closing quotations on the London wool futures market are:—

TIMBER PRODUCTION INCREASES i (New Zealand Press Association) WELLINGTON, May 27. A preliminary analysis of returns from sawmillers indicated that production of sawn timber for the year ended March 1 would be well over 600,000.000 board feet, the Minister of Forests (Mr S. W. Smith) said yesterday. The Minister said that three-quarters of the returns had been received, and showed a production of 455.000.000 board feet, compared with a production of 420,000,000 board feet by the same mills i last year. The increase had been most noticeable in the North Island, particularly in the Rotorua and Auckland conservancies, where increases in production of more than 10 per cent, were recorded. In the South Island increases were evident in the Nelson and Canterbury conservancies, but were partly offset by a i decrease in Westland.
