GOLF AID FOR YOUNG PLAYERS
FOUNDATION SCHEME TO BE DISCUSSED
WELLINGTON CONFERENCE OF ASSOCIATIONS
(New Zealand Press Association) WELLINGTON, May 27. Delegates frem all district golf associations are to be brought to Wellington by the New Zealand Golf Association to take the initial steps in setting up a national golf foundation to foster the game in schools, and to discuss the form of the organisation and its activities. The decision to bring delegates from all over the country, with their expenses paid by the association, was made by the association’s council today after the receipt of letters from district associations, supporting in principle the promotion of golf among young people, but expressing different views on the form of organisatipn required. These letters were in reply to a circular on a proposal by Mr B. M. Silk (Wanganui) for establishing a separate organisation, with the activities partly financed by an “open champion’s challenge day.” The. Manawatu-Wanganui, Marlborough, and Waikato district associations favoured establishing the foundation as an independent body. Hawke’s Bay, Nelson/ and Canterbury suggested that the organisation should be administered by the council of the New Zealand Association. The Auckland Association said the scheme had merit, and reported that a meeting would be held next month to consider the proposals. The Wellington reply said the aims of the scheme were appreciated, but the association expressed regret that, under present conditions, it could not see its way clear to adopt the scheme in its district.
