EMERGENCY POWER FOR HOSPITAL

BOARD TO BUY PLANT The North Canterbury Hospital Board intends to buy an emergency generating plant of about 100 k.v.a. capacity to provide an emergency service for lighting, power for lifts, boiler stokers, and the operating theatre at the Christchurch Hospital in the event of a power failure. In making its recommendations to this effect, the board’s finance committee said the Municipal Electricity Department had indicated that it would continue to isolate the hospital power from local power cuts. “It will- be appreciated that this proposal will exclude the provision of emergency power to such departments as X-ray, pathology, radiotherapy, and the effect of this restriction will be properly explored,” the committee said.
